Amicus Fylde Coast Branch makes a move against BNP conferenceMembers of the Amicus trade union who belong to the Fylde Coast Branch, representing almost 5000 workers from the Blackpool and Fylde area, expressed concern at their November meeting in St Annes about the BNP's plans to hold its conference in Blackpool. They resolved to campaign for a large attendance at the demonstration and rally being called by Unite Against Fascism (UAF) and the Blackpool Fylde and Wyre Trades Union Council, which will take place on the 25th of November in Blackpool. They also agreed to offer financial assistance to the demonstration's organisers. The Chair of the Fylde Coast Branch, Mick Stott, said after the meeting: "Our members strongly object to the BNP's policies of racism and homophobia. We recognise that discrimination in any form is harmful within the workplace and society in general. "The BNP in government would be disastrous for everyone in this country. They would undo everything that the labour and trade union movement have fought for and achieved over the last century. "We are calling for a high turn-out at the demonstration on the 25th to send the BNP a clear signal that they are not welcome in Blackpool." Amicus Fylde Coast (0520M) Branch represents almost 5000 Amicus members, predominantly in the Blackpool and Fylde area, and from a range of industries and professions. It is one of four Amicus branches affiliated to our Trades Council. |
